I can YAP forever about ADHD

I had the wonderful experience of chatting with Makena from the podcast Don’t Worry It’s Confidential about ADHD and neurodivergence. In true ADHD fashion, I did YAP YAP YAP and we ended up splitting it into two episodes. Click here for Part 1 and Part  2 if you want to listen! This podcast is also available on Spotify and probably wherever you get your podcasts lol (I think don’t quote me on this).

About the Episodes
The episodes cover A LOT. We talk about:
- shame
- neurodiversity affirming practice
- navigating diagnoses
- masking and unmasking
- OT and ADHD
- my experience both personally and as a clinician with ADHD
- emotional regulation
- our current systemic issues
- and more (like I said I YAP!!)

I share strategies and approaches throughout the two episodes. I also emphasize and discuss unlearning old strategies that involve trying to do tasks in neurotypical ways (and then burning out). If you have any feedback, I’d love to hear it! It was my first time doing a podcast so feel free to let me know what was helpful and what to change for next time! :)

About the Pod
Makena is a social worker/ therapist
who has guests (both anonymous and non anonymous) who come on the pod and explore topics including mental health, social issues, neurodiversity, and more. It has been one of my favourite podcasts since the start!

I HIGHLY recommend checking out multiple episodes. Makena puts into words what so many of us are feeling. She balances both creating a validating space as well as offering helpful insights for change. I learn so much from each episode. She also has guests who share VERY valuable experiences and expertise on a range of topics. One of my favourite episodes is with Elena Carroll discussing autistic minds and masking. Elena shares A LOT of great information both in the pod and her youtube channel about her lived experience of being late-diagnostic autistic.

Thanks for reading and hopefully my ADHD self will do more blog posts soon!
